There is no better way to be formed as a disciple or to growth in your faith than by studying God's Word. At Grace, we are committed to studying the Bible! Below are our current Bible studies. We are currently offering three studies:
- The Epistle of St. Jude - for youth and adults
- The Book of the Prophet Isaiah - for adult women
- The Gospel of John - for adult men

The Epistle of St. Jude - led by the Rev. Todd Weedman
When: Sunday mornings, 11am
Where: Cooke Hall
Who: Open to all in 6th grade and older
Jude is a short epistle, condemning in fierce terms certain people the author sees as a threat to the early Christian community. According to Jude, these opponents are within the Christian community, but are not true Christians: they are scoffers, false teachers, malcontents, given to their lusts, and so on. The epistle reassures its readers that these people will soon be judged by God and offers hope in the face of these difficulties. Join us as we delve into this often-overlooked letter. This class will meet in the Cooke Hall worship space (for the campus map, see the diagram on the "What to Expect" page).
NOTE: There will be no study on February 12 (Parish Meeting), March 26 (Todd vacation), April 2 (Palm Sunday), and April 9 (Easter Sunday).
The Book of the Prophet Isaiah - led by Tiffany Childs
When: Wednesdays, 7pm
Where: Art & Music Building at HLS or ZOOM
Who: Open to women 18 and older
The Women's Bible Study is currently studying the book of the prophet Isaiah. Isaiah is widely considered the deepest, richest, and most theologically significant book in the Old Testament. It is, without question, a profound statement by God about his own sovereignty and majesty spoken through his chosen spokesman, the prophet Isaiah. Using the accessible commentary by Raymond C. Ortlund Jr. as their main resource, the women of Grace will see the single vision of God throughout all sixty-six chapters of this great book. It is a unified, woven whole that ultimately shows that God saves sinners. He saves them from their own self-invented salvations, so that they can walk in the light of his love. The Women's Bible Study meets at 7pm on Wednesday evenings in the Art & Music Building at Highlands Latin School (see the "What to Expect" page for an HLS campus map). The Gospel of John - led by Dr. Michael Nicholson
When: Thursday evenings, 7pm

Who: Open to men 18 and older
The Gospel of John is a crucial foundational document of Christian faith and teaching. It is John who tells us that Jesus is the incarnate logos—the Word made flesh—who is the light and life of the world, and through whom all things were created. And it is John who reveals that Jesus is “the lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.” Throughout this Gospel, we also learn the truth of Jesus’s identity through his own “I am” declarations:
“I am …
the bread of life.” (John 6:35)
the light of the world.” (John 8:12)
the gate for the sheep.” (John 10:7)
the good shepherd.” (John 10:11)
the resurrection and the life.” (John 11:25)
the way, the truth, and the life.” (John 14:6)
the true vine.” (John 15:1)
Jesus’s self-identification is authenticated, and his glory revealed, by John’s recounting of the miraculous signs that Jesus performed. These signs—such as feeding the 5000 and raising Lazarus—form the framework for accomplishing John’s purpose in writing his Gospel: “Jesus performed many other miraculous signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name” (Jn. 20:30-31).
“Life in his name”—this could be the sub-title of John’s Gospel. Believing in Jesus Christ—who he is and what he did—is the way to eternal life in relationship with God. What John wrote is as true and vital today as it was 2000 years ago. For our study of John’s Gospel, we will be using the guide in the Read/Mark/Learn series from St. Helen’s Anglican church, Bishopsgate, London (see link below).
